When I'm 65!

When you are moving around all the time as we are in Texas, it is difficult to find time to update the blog on a daily basis and you do tend to forget things if you leave it a couple of days.  However an incident in Fredericksburg is difficult to forget and relates to the title of today's post.  All will become clear.
We left San Antonio on a lot happier note that when last there 14 years ago and ended our stay there with a visit to Fredericksburg which lies to the North in hill country and then an evening trip to eat on the wonderful River Walk.
Fredericksburg was founded in 1846 and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia.  It's German heritage is still very strong today and is known by many locally as "Fritztown".  It is the Peach Capital of Texas and probably its most famous citizen - he was born here - was Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz.  So famous in fact that a) a US aircraft carrier still in service today was named in his honour and b) the National Museum of the Pacific War was established here, initially in the hotel that was owned and run by his grandfather but now also situated in a magnificent extension that provides incredibly vivid detail on the war against Japan.
It was difficult really for me to take anything in during our tour because when we entered to obtain our tickets, approaching the desk I scanned the price list for the usual Seniors rates.  You had to be 65 to benefit from the $3 dollar reduction here and clearly I didn't match that criteria.  Wallet at the ready, I was just about to ask for 1 adult and 1senior when a voice behind me chirped up, "two seniors please".  Thanks Linda!  In the seconds that followed, the Yorkshireman within me won the day and rather than say I'm not 65, I meekly handed over the reduced admission fee to the lady behind the desk who incidentally,  compounded my distress by not even questioning our age!  Instead of absorbing the amazing array of historical information on display in this museum, I spent two hours staring into every reflective surface to try and understand my decline and exactly how I could now pass for Methuselah!!! Two days on I am still taking regular looks in the mirror.  Fair play to Linda though because she has suffered me using this trick for years and now revenge is so sweet. I think the saying goes, "hoist by one's own petard".
River Walk post follows.
