What Was All The Fuss About?

I'm happy to report that I am writing this latest post from the comfort, warmth and dryness of our Doubletree hotel room in Austin.
I have to admit that I did wake up with a little trepidation this morning wondering just what the 215 mile journey ahead of us held in store, particularly when one report last night suggested potential problems with Route 183, the road we were due to take.
We had heard the rain during the night but when we set off in the dark at 0730, the skies were very overcast but at least it was dry.  This didn't last for too long though and the wipers were soon having to work overtime.
The fortunate thing was that our progress was unhindered by other traffic as clearly the sensible Texans out there had heeded the meteorological advice given out in spades last night and either had a lie in or decided to watch breakfast tv?  Whatever the reason, we covered the first 70 miles to Brownwood and I think, passed only three cars.  Motoring at its best for me and covered in even time to boot.
The latter part of the journey when we reached the City limits of Austin, saw me experience a marginal increase in heart rate as the skies started to dump more and more rain on us.  Unrelenting is the only way you can describe it and 8 hours after arriving in the city the heavens are still releasing copious amounts of rain onto this sodden metropolis.
So where is the good news in all this?  Qualifying and everything else planned for the Circuit of the Americas today disappeared down the drains with the rainwater.  But as they say, every cloud has a silver lining because apparently, by 0700 hours tomorrow, the rain will cease and everything in the garden is going to be rosy.  Yeh right!!!  We shall see and I continue to remind myself that my glass is half full.
We are setting off for the circuit early doors in the hope of seeing our first F1 race in its entirety.  Certainly the American and indeed numerous UK fans that are in Austin for the event were putting a glorious spin on proceedings in the bar tonight.
Keep your fingers crossed and say a little prayer asking the rain gods to look kindly on an elderly couple from Yorkshire.
Whatever happens tomorrow, we are excited and feel lucky to be able to attend the event.
Linda wants to have the final word tonight with, "come on Lewis".  But, I'm doing the writing so the last words are from me.  "Come on Jenson".  See, I told you my glass was always half full!
