It's several months since I last wrote a Blog (with the aid of my big brother) and I was beginning to feel that lots of people - no let's make that a limited number of family members - were perhaps ready for another dose of my lower grade GCSE type musings?
Well I am happy to oblige as in the morning, Linda and I head off for just over two weeks cruising the highways and byeways of The Lone Star State. For the uneducated out there and I include myself amongst you, this name was born out of the star that appeared on the 1836 flag of The Republic of Texas.
It is something of a sentimental journey for us and one that we hope will expunge some very sad and painful memories of the last time we were there together. One day of our holiday particularly remains in our memory and that was Tuesday 11th September 2001, the day the world changed forever.
We were actually in San Antonio looking forward to continuing what had been a truly memorable trip to date and planned a visit to The Alamo that morning. However, everything changed as we were watching breakfast TV live. No further words are needed. We all know the tragic sequence of events that unfolded that day.
We have no particular plans other than flying out of Heathrow to George Bush International Airport tomorrow and heading out of Houston to San Antonio where we intend to spend the coming weekend.
Other than that, we have no specific itinerary figuring that Texas is a pretty big State - 268,581 square miles to be absolutely precise - and I figure that we won't have too many problems filling our days in that geographical area.
Speaking personally, there is only one must do for me during the whole trip and that is to wind down my window in Northern Texas, stop a wandering inhabitant and simply ask, "Is This The Way To Amarillo?"
Our bags are packed and the anticipation and excitement are rising. We love America.
