It's Raining But Not In My Heart!

Lubbock situated in the Southern High Plains close to the Texas Panhandle is where we spent last night and most of the morning.  It was something of a disturbed night as the predicted storm and tempest descended on the area dumping in some places no less than 7" of rain! Amazingly, Linda slept through the whole five hour storm but she woke up pretty quickly at 6am this morning when I advised her of the tornado warning now in place.  I stopped her diving under the bed for cover and in fact by 9am, the warning had been lifted and we were able to leave our accommodation and head for the Buddy Holly museum.
A quick aside before I give the lowdown on Lubbock and its most famous son.
When leaving the hotel in the morning, we always grab a couple of coffees to go.  This morning it was Linda's job as I prepared the SatNav and the music choice.  When I saw her coming across the car park, I reached across to open the passenger door instructing her to be careful that we didn't damage the car next door by letting ours spring open too quickly (we have a thing about this in the Coy family and I blame Sarah). For some reason Linda burst out laughing and I will let the photo below tell the story!

Back to Lubbock and Charles Hardin Holley born on 7th September 1936 and better known to us as Buddy Holly. The museum dedicated to him in Lubbock provides a fascinating insight into his very short lived but highly successful musical career which despite being only 18 months long saw him and his band The Crickets, still achieve some 25 hit records before his tragic death in a plane crash in February 1959   - The Day The Music Died.
The museum provides huge detail about his career and you get to see some of the very first music videos which can only be described as cringeworthy!  The most fascinating fact was that Buddy Holly actually toured the UK in the late 50s and his warm up act was Des O'Connor. Amazing and on show was the guitar that Buddy Holly used on that tour and presented to his support act at the end.
Without this famous son, Lubbock would not be a place you would choose to visit and so onwards North asking people on the journey, "is this the way to Amarillo?".  Yes I've used that one already and will probably use it again!
